Dark Skies and Bright Ideas
An Educator's Guide to Navigating the Universe
by Teri Bellows and Patricia Totten
This is a curriculum that can easily be implemented to provide a teacher and student friendly experience, and it is an excellent introduction to Astronomy. The book was written by two high school teacher-astronomers, and has been field tested in the classroom since 1995. Units are in reproducible packets that include notes, activities and review, so each student keeps a notebook that becomes their own personal astronomy workbook. There is an overview and resource sections for teachers. Take a look at an excerpt from Dark Skies and Bright Ideas). The table of contents to our teaching guide is listed below.
Table of Contents
Constellations, Introductory Packet, Observing Guide, Behavior of Light, Astronomers and Their Laws, The Celestial Sphere, The Earth, The Sun, The Moon, Eclipses, The Solar System, Comets, Meteors and Asteroids, Stars and Nebulae, Galaxies, Cosmology and Black Holes, NASA and the Space Program, Extraterrestrials and Teacher Resource.
